JFC: STAY-IN-SCHOOL COMMITTEE (Formerly Dropout Prevention Committee)
The Superintendent shall establish a Dropout Prevention Committee (DPC) to study the problem of dropouts, habitual truancy, and the need for alternative programs from kindergarten to grade 12, in accordance with the requirements of state law. The DPC shall submit a plan of action to the School Committee. The DPC will meet at least once annually thereafter to review the plan and make recommendations to the School Committee as appropriate.
Dropout Prevention Committee Membership
The Dropout Prevention Committee shall be composed of the following members, appointed on an annual basis:
A. A member of the School Committee selected by the School Committee;
B. A school administrator selected by the Superintendent;
C. A teacher and a school counselor selected by the teachers’ organization;
D. A parent selected by the local parent group;
E. A school attendance coordinator selected by the Superintendent;
F. A high school student selected by the DPC members;
G. A dropout selected by the DPC members; and
H. A community resident of the district selected by the DPC members.
The Committee shall select a chair from among its members.
