MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of the Kittery School Committee is to prepare all students to be life-long learners and contributing members of the global community by providing high quality educational programs and services in a safe and respectful teaching and learning environment.

PHILOSOPHY

The Kittery School Committee believes that learning is a life-long process and that all children can learn.  Working together, the schools, home and community should help all children to discover, develop and achieve their potential.  Through the teaching and learning process, the schools should foster respect for self and others, self-discipline, independent thinking and creativity.  The schools should provide opportunities for students to become productive, ethical and responsible members of the global community.

The School Committee further believes that the schools should offer an environment that supports each student in developing his or her potential.  The School Committee’s interests extend beyond the intellectual to the physical, emotional and social development of each student.  To these ends, the Kittery schools should:

A.   Provide opportunities for students to become productive and responsible members of the community;

B. Provide all students with sensitive, qualified staff, dedicated to dealing with each student as an individual;

C. Provide an appropriate, challenging educational experience for all students within the school system;

D.   Provide an appropriate and safe learning environment for the educational activities necessary for a comprehensive program;

E. Advocate for adequate resources and effectively utilize available resources to provide necessary programs and services;

F. Provide community members with information about the schools as well as opportunities for involvement in the school system;  and

G.   Continuously strive to improve the School Department’s instructional programs and support student achievement.
