Student Work Permits

WORK PERMIT AUTHORITY
A minor under sixteen (16) years of age may not be employed without a work permit signed by the Superintendent of Schools.

CONDITIONS FOR WORK PERMIT
You must be enrolled in school or home-schooled and passing a majority of your courses.  When school is in session, you may have only one work permit at any given time.  You may have two work permits during summer vacation.

WHAT YOU NEED BEFORE APPLYING FOR A WORK PERMIT
  • You must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
  • You must be at least 14 years old.
  • You must bring your Birth Certificate and Social Security Card.
  • You must have assurance from your employer that you will be placed in that job once your work permit is processed.
  • You must know your job title, address of your employer and telephone number of your employer.
WHAT HAPPENS AFTER YOU LEAVE THE SUPERINTENDENT'S OFFICE
  • Legally you cannot begin your job until you have the work permit in hand.
  • Your permit is mailed to the Department of Labor for processing (7-10 business days to process).
  • We will call you to pick up the approved work permit.
  • You will bring your work permit to your employer.

The Superintendent's Office at the Kittery Town Hall. 
Permits issued Monday-Friday 7:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
